Development of the cemetery
The cemetery was established around 1835 south of the former village centre. Its development is visible in two entrance areas and the transition from a rectangular layout to curving paths.
- around 1835
Cemetery established
The oldest section was laid out as a rectangle.
- 19th century
Old archway
A building at the north-west corner served as mortuary and keeper's house; its arch became the old main entrance.
- 1982
New funeral hall
The modern funeral hall with its low-sweeping metal roof and a second main entrance were completed.
Space, architecture and remembrance
Several extensions initially retained the rectangular pattern, with lime trees lining some paths as avenues. Newer sections follow the rising ground towards Frankenstein with curving paths. Two memorial sites commemorate the dead of the world wars; the Second World War memorial stands amid soldiers’ graves.
The cemetery tour links the bus stop and parking area for arrival planning. It is not a route within the grounds, and the historic entrances are not assigned estimated markers.
